The hardest thing in photography is to create a simple image

When I say I want to photograph someone what it really means is that I'd like to know them

Everything has it's beauty but not everyone sees it

Photography to the amateur is recreation to the professional it is work and hard work too no matter how pleasurable it may be

There are always two people in every picture: the photographer and the viewer

Beauty can be seen in all things seeing and composing the beauty is what separates the snapshoot from the photograph

There are no rules for good photographs there are only good photographs

All photo are accurate none of them is the truth

If I could tell the story in words I wouldn't need to lug around a camera

My portraits are more about me than they are about the people I photograph

It's weird that photographers spend years or even a whole lifetime trying to capture moments that added together don't even amount to a couple of hours

And if a day goes by without my doing something related to photography it's as though I've neglected something essential to my existence

The departure of our boys to foreign parts with the ever present possibility that they might never return taught the real value of photography to every father and mother

I thought I made a mistake once but it turned out it was a creative moment
